A Tree of Life Poem

The Tree of Life, my parents once told me,

  Was in the biggest shopping mall of all;

So I ran away from my home to see:

  Yes, there it was!  Resplendent in the hall

Of the great building Death, whose guards, tall men,

  Stood in front, preventing my entering.

I craned my neck and watched crowds enter in,

  But they would not let me, though whimpering.

The golden revolving door twisted round –

  Never once the Tree clearly did I see –

But I have grown and today I have found

  From the Bible the Way open to me.

The Word in my soul turns and twists in rhyme

  As I write, herein, of heaven in time.
