A Simple Maiden
I stood and I wondered – I knelt down,
Seeing the radiance of the angel.
What could I offer in my little town?
Then He spoke of One in my womb to dwell.
I searched in my mind how such life could be,
And my maiden heart was touched with sadness:
Out of all the worthy souls God could see,
A maiden was called for His righteousness.
“Behold,” I said, “The handmaid of the Lord.”
My mind was silent as my heart obeyed.
“Do unto me according to thy word.”
To God for proper grace I humbly prayed.
The angel left for new wonder to raise.
His word fulfilled, our God, my soul does praise.
