In the Word’s Net
Son of God, am I a man or a fish?
You have caught me in the Word’s divine net;
You treat me like a man – but how I wish
To wiggle and swim free (from this son-net)
Into the vast, immeasurable deep
Of the sea. And so I do. Who are you,
Reader? How will you my heart’s secrets keep?
Or will you mock and devour me anew?
No? Will you for me yourself sacrifice? –
So it is you, O Lord, I seek to love!
But can I? Can a fish/man’s love suffice
To cherish – adore – You so far above?
I swim and breathe – evolve – in my life’s span,
Humbling myself for communion with Man.
