The Tenth Station -- Jesus Is Stripped of His Robe

They parted my garments amongst them;
 and upon my vesture they cast lots.  Ps. 21:19

Jesus was stripped of his blood-stained garment –
 How blind are our eyes to the naked Word?
How ashamed are we to look on the Lord?
 As sin has perverted the innocent,
In innocence must be man’s atonement –
 Behold the Lamb of God whom John adored!
Whom sin unrecognizably lowered
,
 Yet we are clothed in his mercy’s raiment.

With what means could the Bridegroom win His Bride?
 But by enduring in love the torments
Devised by His people’s insane, blind pride,
 And starkly revealing His innocence?

On Golgotha Jesus nakedly stood,
 Innocence unyielding, stripped of man's good.
