The Seventh Station -- Jesus Falls the Second Time

He asked life of thee: and thou hast given him
length of days for ever and ever.  Ps. 20:5

Cruel ignorance dealt Christ blows, lashes.
Was Our Lord without human emotion?
O Sacred Heart, bereft of adoration.
Our Lord’s skin was cut open in gashes

Sin’s filth can not stain whom His blood washes.
My God, how did your angels have motion
When you fell?  Who?  Who gave strength for motion?
Dust we are, to dust we return – ashes.

My Lord, with your infinite dignity
You fell.  We, in sin, must never complain
Of suffering – when your humanity
Was on this world’s trodden, stony ways lain.

Jesus rose to his feet with mercy’s breath
In the suffering he willed for his death.
