The Third Station -- Jesus Falls the First Time

For the king hopeth in the Lord: and through the mercy
of the most High he shall not be moved.  Ps. 20:8

Sinless, Jesus clasped our burden of sin.
But whose mortal pride does it need to crush?
Mine.  Can I write more?  I can not think.  Hush.
Upon his shoulders, scourged bloody and thin –
Hope how heavy – his ascent to begin.
How can we follow?  Love will never rush
When Our Lord himself fell.  Now mercy’s push:
Jesus carried the cross and let Love in –

To our lives when we fail and we falter.
 Goad me
on, gentle Lord, when I retreat
From a difficult task
when I halt here.
Without struggle, what glory can we meet?

Our Lord fell and rose and taught us wisdom:
To seek Him, to fall, to never succumb.
