The Will of Mary

All along you well knew
  The fate of your Son,
The death He would go threw,
 The day it was done.

Though silent your lips
 And your countenance fair,
You desired no slips
 So His fate you could share.

All through your life
 You gazed on the ocean
Of sorrow and strife,
 Man’s sinful misfortune.

In the depths of your heart
 You always desired
To fulfill the sad part
 Your destiny required:

To sacrifice all
 To the will of your God,
To end the sad fall,
 Avert His just rod.

Your pathmarks seemed hazy,
 Your chances so slim;
You hated to be lazy,
 Your life was for Him.

Through Egypt with Joseph,
 Your husband so sure,
You traveled, the rose of
 Jerusalem’s poor.

In Nazareth you settled
 With husband and Son;
In poverty kept nettled,
 Your task was not done.

You watched as He left home,
 With wash-cloth in hand,
To bring forth the Kingdom,
 Tell the Truth to the land.

Saint Simeon foretold
 The sword you would share;
On Mount Calvary you made bold,
 His heart you did bear!
