Me Yet

                                                            “My Father, if it is possible,
                                                              Let this cup pass from me;
                                                             Yet, not my will
                                                              But Thy will be done.”
                                                                                      Matthew 26: 39

                                                   Surely, dear Jesus, you will be with me
                                                     When comes that hidden, unwritten moment
                                                     Between the “me” and the “yet”?  I present
                                                   This petition for the same grace to be
                                                   Within my heart and mind as was with thee,
                                                     Then.  Place this prayer within your heart’s current,
                                                     With your words to which you ever assent:
                                                   “Ask and you shall receive.”   Make my “me” we.

                                                   As You would never imprison my will,
                                                     So will – must – I never imprison Yours.
                                                       And the yearning of my heart’s prayer now slips
                                                     Away into the river of time – pours
                                                       Deep into the valleys of faith.  Whose lips
                                                   Are these?  On my brow?  Now, oh mind, be still!
