Day by Day
It seems to me wisdom to know how fell
I am, so that I trust not my low self
But trust the Way unto eternal wealth.
It seems to me men create living hell
In all their selfish schemes to buy and sell,
Blinding themselves to just compassion’s health,
As their eyes grow wide when they see sin’s pelf.
But You, Lord, guide us to love and love well.
It seems to me great wisdom to forgive
When others rob us, in their words or deeds:
For You then reward us with forgiveness
And credit our accounts, so we may live
Secure in meek wealth, replete for our needs,
Your “beacons” in our ordinariness.
